STORY
What started with a pair of Vans turned into a passion for turning kicks into art
When I was little, I was enamored with my brother's drawings. I always admired his skill and one day I decided to ask my dad for one of those super kickass '90s art sets with markers, paint, crayons, pencils, etc. ... 20 years later here we are.
Art for me has always been a deep love that brought me such happiness and pride but it was never an ever-burning daily flame like I see in most artists. I never even planned to be an artist if we're being honest. My artistic sessions were always random and frenetic. They came in obsessive waves where I would get so inspired by something that I couldn't sleep until I drew it. It was a feeling to this day I have never been able to describe, but it made me feel like I could do anything.
It was that same feeling that brought me to shoes.
One day I was clearing out my closet and came across this old pair of Vans, I felt that flame burst from my chest and I instantly knew what I had to do. I went and got every supply I needed and spent the next 5 days taking every spare second sketching /painting my first-ever pair of shoes with my childhood favorite show... Rugrats.
I was so proud, I couldn't help but stare at them for hours. I expected that obsessive feeling to dissipate but it only became more intense. I ran to my closest grabbed my pair of platform high-top Vans and spent close to 70 hours painting my greatest work to date, the SpongeBob OGs.
I knew then that this was what I was meant to do, and that my friends, was the beginning of Grime Slime Studio.
